A Community Church

Rev. John Tindell

I am originally from Miami, Florida. However, after graduating from college and seminary and serving a church in Florida, Bee and I and our two small children moved to Sitka, Alaska to start a new Methodist congregation there. We lived in Alaska, serving 4 churches, over a period of 35 years.

Since moving to Oregon, we have had the opportunity to serve United Methodist congregations in Nampa and Boise, in Idaho, and the Pleasant Home United Methodist Church in Gresham, Oregon. We are delighted to have the opportunity to now live on the Oregon Coast at Seaside.

Bee and I have been married 50 years. We have two grown children, and a grandson.

While serving in Juneau, I was organizing pastor of Northern Light United Church. That congregation is a united church, related to both the United Methodist and Presbyterian USA denominations. When I went there I was both “called” (as in the Presbyterian practice of placing pastors) and “appointed” (which is the United Methodist system).

In my pastoral ministry, the two things I like to emphasize are 1) relating to people and 2) helping people find and express their God-given gifts and abilities. If you are a new comer to the congregation, I hope to have the opportunity to get to know you, and if possible assist you in discerning where God is leading your life in meaningful and positive ways.
